Dear Kosterina Family,
This week we celebrate International Women's Day. As a female founder, friend and supporter of many female-founded brands and a mom to two young girls, it's a day that holds a special place in my heart.
For those of you who don't know, International Women's Day is a global holiday established all the way back in 1975 - though its roots took hold almost 100 years earlier. Its purpose is to "celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness for women's equality" and so much more. To me, it's a reminder of something most of us take for granted: women and girls around the world were not always seen as equal - and it's our responsibility to keep fighting for a more equal, just and healthy world for all.
Unfortunately only 2-3% of venture capital goes to female founders. But in addition to recognizing the work that still has to be done, today is just as much about celebrating the milestones we have achieved so far. Some good news:
- There are over 12.3 million female entrepreneurs today, as compared to 402,000 in 1972, with 43% of total entrepreneurs worldwide being women.
- Despite lower access to capital, one in three innovation-driven entrepreneurs are now women, with one-third of high-growth businesses also being run by women.
